This is an OpenSCAD generator to create a custom sized holder/slicer for your muffins, bagels, kaiser rolls, sub rolls, etc.
How to Customize It
Measure your bready thingy – length, width, and height. Use the Customizer to set those dimensions. Choose various other options:
- Knife slot width
- Wall thickness (thicker may be better for taller)
- Base Height
- Add a base extension for gripping
- Cut out a finger notch for grabbing
- Set clearance for a good fit (varies by printer)
- Create a quick and small test for fit check
Printing
No special requirements and no support needed. Print 1 base and 2 walls.
Pre-testing
I used a 0.1mm clearance to get a snug fit with the walls into the base. This dimension may vary with your printer and how well dialed in it is. I recommend using my test option to print a small, quick “wall” and “base” to verify the fit. The test uses your base height, wall thickness, and clearance settings and makes the smallest reasonable sized version of a wall and base. {A good investment before committing to an 8 hour or more print!}
Using It
As you can see from the pictures: assemble, drop in bready thing, and slice.
Assembly
The base and walls are printed separately to prevent support and allow large sizes. The walls are meant to be a snug fit. After inserting the walls, you may leave it assembled or dissemble for easy storage.
Slicing
As desired, you may grip it at the top, or hold it steady with a hand on the base extension. After slicing, you may grab the bready with your fingers in the optional notch and lift it out.
Other Thoughts
I considered making this thing adjustable, but every idea I had would make it complicated and unstable. So, if you need to slice different things, make additional slicers. ;)
If you are unfamiliar with OpenSCAD or its customizer, I have included a little tutorial I made.
I’ve included a .json file with some preset sizes. Unfortunately, Printables doesn’t recognize that file type for upload. So, it is named “Muffin Slicer.json.txt”. After download, rename it to remove the “.txt” and place it in the same folder as the “Muffin Slicer.scad” file (which can be anywhere you want).
