This is a standard embroidery hoop that uses M3 fittings for the tightening mechanism. The default size has an inner hoop diameter of 80mm and a mesh file is included for that size.
Please note that this model should be sliced with pauses at 8.2mm (layer 41 for a .2mm layer height) and 17.6mm (layer 88). These pauses will allow you to insert the captive hex nuts for the hoop and the knob, respectively. I have used spare M3 hex nuts from the Prusa build that measure about 6mm across, flat side to flat. A 30mm screw that is threaded all fully threaded along the length provides pretty good functioning of the hoop, but it's designed to accommodate much longer and slightly shorter screws, depending on what you have. I would suggest that you leave the screw a little loose in the hoop and use the knob to tighten the whole thing once you have fabric in it (see photo).
I have generally printed this model with three perimeters for additional rigidity, rather than the default two in PrusaSlicer. The gcode files for PLA and PETG include the pauses and the three perimiters.
Other sizes
The original Fusion360 model has been parameterized to allow changing of various dimension of the hoop (see the included images for what can be changed). If you aren't familiar with parameterized Fusion 360, there is a dialog under Modify called "Change Parameters". The values can be changed within the dialog and the model will update in real time.
If you like the design and don't have access to Fusion 360, contact me and I'll do what I can to upload additional sizes ready to print. If OpenSCAD is more your speed for a configurable model, try this hoop.
Suggestions for modifying the hoop parameters
When using the small 80mm hoop for fairly thin embroidery fabrics, a “Hoop Gap” of .5mm or 1mm would be best. For thicker fabrics like a hand-knitted sweater, a gap of 2 or more would be better. Though this also depends somewhat on the overall size of the hoop.
