This model is used as a pencil holder for classrooms and offices. Teachers can use it to see how many pencils are missing and make sure all are returned. It also serves as be good desk decoration because it is designed after the Astra Millennium symbol so you can display your loyalty to the Emperor of Mankind.
Dimensions: 10 cm tall X 30 cm wide X 2 cm thick
Problem Statement: Recent analysis by the Staples finance department has concluded that sales for desktop organization products have declined in recent years. The company would like to ramp up its profits in this area by enhancing the aesthetic nature of these products.
Your group of two has been hired to design a set of theme-based organizational products. Your team will design a set of office supplies that are tied together with a common theme. You must be able to justify the theme that connects the products. The idea is that the customer will not want to buy just one; they will want to buy the whole set.
Design Choices: Before looking at the initial rough draft that we made of our idea for this model, it is important to see the symbol that our pencil holder would take inspiration from.

Our first sketch for incorporating this design was a little rough.

We still put this shape into Solid Works when we were first starting, but when we realized that this shape looked very dissimilar to the actual symbol we used the tried and true method of inserting the image onto an extruded rectangle, sketching the image, and then cut-extruding it.

This is also when I decided to use the mirror entities option for the sketch of the symbol.
After cutting the symbol out, I realized that our idea to have the pencils come out of the wings and have the Astra Millennium symbol be upside down would not work because you can only cut on a flat surface and the ends of the wings are curved.

To solve this issue I decided to make boxes at the ends of four of the wings so that the cut for the holes in which the pencils will be housed can be created.

Once I reached the step in which the final details were made such as Chamfer and Filets, I ran into an issue with these boxes.
They had some excess material hanging off the sides so to solve this problem I cut-extruded towards the bottom plane.
