A bracket that holds a piece of ~2.5mm wire for a soldering iron stand.

The wire is bent at the base at a ~100deg angle so that it leans away from you a bit to make the soldering iron be pointed downwards more. The bent part should be at least 10mm, but no more than 30mm long. It keeps the wire from rotating and stops it from coming out of the bracket.

Parts:

2x m3 x 12mm bolts

2-4x m3 bolts long enough to go through your base plus ~5mm

4-6x m3 nuts

about 400mm of ~2.5-3 wire (preferably steel or another low conductivity metal)

a base to mount the stand on

Instructions:

  1. Bend the wire into the holder. I made mine to look like this. I didn't follow their bending guide, but just made the same shape and used dimensions that fit the iron well. You will definitely want to use at least one pair of pliers for this.
  2. Print out one left and one right half, along with one template.
  3. Cut through the sacrificial bridging in the holes for the bolts on each piece.
  4. Use the template to drill out the holes in the base. You can use 2-4 bolts to mount it, but it was fine for me with 2 on opposite corners.
  5. Put the nut in the slot at the end of the first bracket and mount it.
  6. Put the already bent wire into the grove on the inside and place the nuts in the hexes on one side and bolt together the two halves.
  7. Bolt down the other half to the base.
