This device goes by many names: “slack cable holder” or “slack cable storage” or “slack cable management” or “cable coiling system” or “cable coiling bracket”. No matter the name, the purpose is the same: if you have wire or cable that you don't want to snip short, you can use this model to wind and store the extra neatly on the wall.
This model is printable without supports. It has slots for zip ties or Velcro wraps. It has four screw holes for wall mounting. The model is parameterized so that you can customize it to hold more or less cable.
In the photos you'll see I overloaded the winder… and yet it still is working ok. If I ever redo this particular installation, when I reprint the model, I'll increase the “winder_height” parameter.
I'm including a parameterized Fusion 360 model which allows you to customize it to fit your slack cable needs. The parameters are:
- width: the size of the outer square. The default is 200mm for compatibility with most printers.
- winder_height: The height of the winding area. Set higher for more cable, lower for less. Defaults is 40mm.
- screw_hole_dia: Default 5mm.
- inset_distance: How far the wall is set back from the outer square. Setting this larger results in a smaller circle but more winding space. Make small changes and see what happens.
