There are plenty of different hexagon drawer models online, but what I could find were either too small or take literally days (and tons of filament) to print. So I decided to design these lightweight drawers that print comparatively quickly and don't use rolls of filament. The diameter of the hexagons is 20cm so this will fit on most common printers.

I've included options for the drawer depth to be 100mm or 150mm. The only difference is the depth of the case and drawer insert, everything else stays the same. You can see in the pics that I used two 150mm drawers and one 100mm drawer.

Being thin prints means that they are a little flexible, but this is remedied with the support insert that gets printed in normal mode. You can use one or two of the inserts depending on which depth of drawers you make or how flexible your filament is (the insert isn't shown in the photos as I added it later, but it fits under the purple colored drawer in the middle).

What you need

  • One 3mm x 10mm self tapping screw per drawer
  • Glue (super glue will work)

Printing Instructions

I've included four .3mf files for the 100mm and 150mm drawers, showing which parts are to be printed in vase mode and which are to be printed normally. All the stl files are also included.

Only print the cases that you need for whatever combination of drawers you want, you don't need to print all of the cases in the .3mf file.

Outer cases

Print the outer cases in vase mode. Set your extrusion width to 0.85mm - this works even with 0.4mm nozzles.

0.24mm layer heights will work fine.

All other parts

Print the rest of the parts as you normally would (i.e. not in vase mode). The walls are deliberately thin so you may need to use Arachne slicing mode to get the wall widths right depending on your nozzle size (this was designed with 0.4mm nozzle sizes in mind).

O.24mm layer heights will work fine.

Assembly Instructions

The outer cases simply slide together. The support insert also slides into place under the middle drawer case.

The drawer insert slots into the groove on the drawer face - this needs to be glued in place. Super glue works fine but you can use a stronger epoxy if you have the time.

The drawer handle then just needs to be screwed in place using a small chipboard or wood screw.

The tolerances for the fitment are fairly tight - I set them at 0.3mm so your printer will need to be pretty well calibrated for the best fitment.
