NOTE : Check for newer and better(?) versions of this clip by searching for “filament clip mini curved” :

This is my third attempt at getting the “perfect” filament clip. My previous two attempts worked reasonably well, but did not completely meet all of my design goals:

  • Cheap to print (minimal filament use)
  • Single piece - no assembly required
  • Works with a variety of filament reels
  • Clips firmly onto the filament reel
  • Attaches/removes easily on the filament reel
  • Clips the filament firmly

This improves on my previous designs by replacing the hole for the filament with a side clip for the filament; this is easier to use and also hold the filament more firmly.   The “spring clip” which attaches to the filament reel was also improved by further refining the multi-layer spring design of Version 2, and also making it tighter and stronger.

These clips also work with my Filament Clip Storage Tree (link below), although putting them on the “tree” is a bit harder due to the tighter fit.

Print Instructions

Printing in PLA is quite simple. Use the provided 3mf or gcode files to print a single copy, or multiples of six. Otherwise, print with 2 perimeters and 0% infill.

You may notice that the spring layers appear to be fused together where they contact the build plate. However, this does not affect function and the clips still work just fine.

As with my previous clips, I like to print in multiple colors with a different color for each filament type, for quick identification.
