We wanted something a little more special than just candy for Valentines day - so we came up with a twist on the classic fidget spinner.
It should be fun… and fast to print (we needed to make 25). After a lot of testing with small hands, this was what was by far the favorite with the kids. They print in ~33 minutes - and you can print 8 at a time on a Mini in just over 4 hours.
You'll need a 608 bearing (8x22x7mm - standard fidget spinner / skate bearing - they're common and cheap on Amazon… anything ‘608’ (608-rs, 608-zz), some super glue and silicone spray.
You can also easily print ‘Be Mine’ type logos on them.
If you use the .3mf file, there is a modifier block that adds weight to the point so you can balance it. If there is some wobble and it seems the point is too heavy or too light, just move the block a bit.
I printed with variable layer height, 4 perimeters, 1.2mm minimum top thickness, .5mm minimum bottom thickness and 20% infill. I made the tolerances on the tight side - if the parts are too tight, just scale the pieces up or down on the x and y axes. You can also adjust the xy size compensation parameter in the Slicer.
Assemble the 2 halves of the hearts using the dowels and a few drops of super glue. For the bearings, I pry off the black plastic dust caps, use a tooth brush and dish soap to remove the grease and give them a good dose of silicone spray before assembling.
Have fun and happy Valentines day!
