Rik Brouwer invented this puzzle before 2000. The Czech company Pelikan made a number of these in three wood types (see photo).
This puzzle is very easy to print. Print two copies of the Main piece and two copies of the Wing piece in three colors. The 3mf file is for printing all needed pieces of one color, I print it three times in three colors to make one puzzle. I include the scad program which generated the pieces in case you want to change the sizing or fit.
Insert a wing piece into each main piece so the coloring is as indicated in the photos. Each wing can be inserted from one side only and will hit a stop when it reaches the middle. The wings can be glued in place but I have not done so. Assembly is quite tricky but does not require coordinate motion. Please let me know if you need assembly tips.
The assembled shape is called a “Compound of Three Cubes”, made famous by M. C. Escher's lithograph “Waterfall”.
