Description
This model gives you a sturdy and modular dew shield for your 50mm guide scope, that prints without supports. A dew shield helps to prevent dew from forming on the lens of a telescope by warming the air around the lens from the cold of the night sky. It can also help shield the lens from stray light coming from non-celestial objects, which reduces reflections and artifacts in the final image. When not in use, the screw-on cap provides protection for the lens. I use it on my Orion 50mm Guide Scope with great success.
The inner diameter of this model is 58mm, but the design could be adapted for larger apertures, as well. The shield is composed of three pieces: a base, middle, and a cap. These three pieces thread together, and the middle piece can be printed multiple times and screwed into other middle pieces to extend the dew shield. The dew shield fits over the business end of your scope, and is secured to the scope by three set screws, which are included in the model. Screw them in to tighten the fit against your scope. The walls of the shield are 4mm thick, which provide a sturdy and rigid body that won't flex or bend.
