Was planning on making a cheapo helping hands like the omnifixio to use some old 2.5 to 3.5" hdd adapters when I had a real project that would let me fill up a laser cut order with the metal hands, but when I saw pop's plastic one, I decided to JUST DO IT with plastic.

The smooth screw version works the best of the two, but the magnets aren't so stronk so I typically had to use 3 hands to stabilize anything and even then it wasn't great, the original omnifixio really does work much more stable. While this is functional for tiny boards, I really can't recommend it for much more.

Required parts:

  • 5mm id springs
  • m4 screws or m4 threaded smooth screws with 5mm od (smooth ones cost like $1 each so not so cheapo)
  • 10mm m4 threaded balls with corresponding magnets typically used for delta printers(ali express for like $1-3)
  • old hdd adapter or some other random peice of metal

For the normal m4 screws the sleeve may need some playing with settings depending on how well ur printer is calibrated, i was overextruding a bit so i just snipped the cone w/ a streight cutter and slid it on.

Tried to get tpu tensioning plug and integrate into the bootsies, but it didnt work out so well.

All parts but bootises(tpu) tested and more or less working with pet-g with standard settings. Obviously orient parts with supports or bevels facing down.

Source included so anyone can make w/e changes they want.
