My daughter came to me to print a shield according to dimension of a sample she did in cardboard.
Here it is.

As I have a Prusa mini+, I had to split it in 4.

In the FreeCAD file you will see that part *2_of_4* and *4_of_4* are respectively mirrors of *1_of_4* and *3_of_4*. As a result if you want to edit these parts:

1: be patient, because I used “through all” to generate the threads (soft is calculating 1500mm of M6 thread). You can try to change to “dimension”, but didn't work with me at the moment I did it.

2: reverse thread from left to right and vice versa to generate your parts (to have right handed on mirrors you need to set left on the original body)

3: I used a bit of projection of external entities on some sketch, so if you delete one or modify a dimension which suppress one FreeCAD can be lost and you will have to edit a bit sketches.

Otherwise the assembly relies on:

  • 4 parts for the shield plate
  • One handle (two type/dimension in STL: 30mm of clearance and 40mm)
  • 12 centering pin (diameter 2.75 fitting in 3mm holes, in theory, I used my driller to clear a bit)
  • 4 M6 screws
  • Washers if needed (didn't included them as it is quite standard)
  • Optional drop of glue for shield plate if you want/need

For printing:

  • I printed the four parts of the plate on the interface face, borders on, and at least one support leg to avoid it to tilt during printing
  • For the handle, I printed it rounded face towards the bed, with support. Another way to reduce support would be to slice the handle in two at a height between screw barrel then print both sub part face to the bed. Then assembled the stack.
  • I printed in PLA, 2 walls, 3D honeycomb, 0.2mm layer, IS on (max speed of 140mm/s, contour around 70mm/s)
  • Count more or less 60g support included for each part (except pin) → 60*5 ~300g of PLA and ~20h of print
