I wanted to try out making my own recycled paper at home, so I made a mold and deckle on my printer! If you just google “how to make paper," there are many tutorials that you can follow.

I found that the mesh holes were a little too big; some pulp was getting through and making the sheet stick to the mold. However, by putting a used dryer sheet in between the mold and deckle, I found that it worked great and I could just carefully peel the dryer sheet off the paper after putting it down (see pictures).

If you have Solidworks, you can download the parameterized files (the included .zip file is a pack-and-go). If you just change the values in the global variables text file then rebuild the assembly, the part files will update automatically. You can change the width and length and change the hole size and spacing of the mesh. If you find values that work better than my defaults, please let me know!

The uploaded .stl files are for the pictured 10cm X 10cm shape for origami. I've also thought about making one that's bigger for greeting cards, or making novel shapes (like a circle or animal shape). If I make those, I will upload the files here.

@paper3d asked about a 25cm x 25cm mold and deckle (paper size 23cm x 23 cm), so I have uploaded .stl files for that size as well!
