As I often switch between cars using sequential and h-pattern shifters, I grew tired of how long it took to remove a shift knob and then screw another one on, so I created an interrupted thread version that goes on and off with ¼ turn.

The mount includes a center hole for a M3 screw to secure it to the aluminum shifter rod, but so far the clamp secured with two M3 screws and nuts have made it unnecessary to drill the rod and add the additional screw.

I've included the step files for the interrupted thread core for anyone wishing to create their own shift knob shapes.

Edit: Turns out that after a while the PLA creeps enough that the screw through the shifter rod was required. Easy to drill through the aluminum rod, just make sure to remove and turn sideways so as not to get aluminum bits in the shifter (bad thing, may allow escape of magic smoke).

I have since made these in PLA and PETG. Either works well. Originally I'd printed these at 0.20 layer height, but switched to 0.16 for a smoother finish. I've also printed an additional “Bolt”, which I've attached to a worn out drill bit, making it easy to use a hand drill to sand knobs for a smooth surface. I finish them with shellac, which I make from blond de-waxed flakes and Everclear (or Diesel which is cheaper) rather than use the commercially available shellac full of nasty chemicals. Paint would work as well, but with shellac I can do multiple coats in a matter of miniutes. Being able to spin them with a drill makes for a nice even finish.
