I created these two models for my Japanese-inspired N scale layout.
The STL files have predefined dimensions:
- 90 mm long and 9 mm deep for the inspection pit
- 70 mm long and 7 mm deep for the ash pit
The lengths of these two models can be adjusted in a few seconds using Fusion360 files (.f3d). You just need to change the length (d1) in the first sketch and the quantity of the pattern in « patterns on path » function (d54) to fill the required length of rail fastenings, then the rest of the model automatically adapts.
With good printer calibration, the rails can be slipping on into the notches and are held without any glue; but before inserting a rail coupon, I recommend inserting a single rail in each slot to check for tolerance and to deburr the seams normally present at one end.
The pictures illustrates my models printed with a 0.2 mm nozzle and matte PLA.
Recommended printing parameters
0.2 mm nozzle, layer height 0.1 mm and supports enabled.
0.4 mm nozzle, layer height 0.16 mm is also perfectly functional but the result is less sharp.
