I've been building a plastic ant with a friend and the “ready to fight” design we downloaded had really mediocre free wheels in the front which print poorly and barely stay on the axles, so I redesigned them to use a 693ZZ ball bearing retained with a screw-on bearing cap.  this design should work for the Repeat Robotics Axle Ant or any other axle with a ~5mm OD and M3 inner thread.

print instructions: print the bearing cap on its head, and print the wheel with the narrow side toward the build plate.  I printed these in ASA with 40% infill, 5 top and bottom layers; each wheel weighs ~11.7g (with the bearing, without the retaining screw or axle) with these settings, according to PrusaSlicer.

assembly instructions:

  1. place the wheel loosely over the axle.
  2. assemble the axle: insert an M3 screw through a 693ZZ ball bearing and screw it into the end of the axle.
  3. hold the wheel against the side of the bearing, and start the bearing cap into the thread.
  4. insert a 5.5mm hex key into the hole in the bearing cap and turn it gently to seat the bearing in the wheel and tighten the cap.
  5. tape up the wheels with electrical tape so they have a little bit better grip than just plastic sliding on the arena floor.
