This design uses some lying around screws, an old sheet and a cheap dowel to create an hand cranked theater that fits any living room. The design is very straight forward. If you'd like to watch a movie, simply pull the dowel to the left ever so slight to release the mechanism and roll down the sheet. Attach the bottom corners to the fold-away hooks and enjoy your movie!

What you'll need:

  • 20mm diameter dowel (length to your liking but long enough for it to stick out slightly on to the left of the part to attach the wrench)
  • a white sheet of sorts
  • eyelet if available
  • string or rubber bands, about 40cm but depends on your sheet
  • 0-5 M2 screws, length about 15mm but may vary slightly
  • 4-6 dowels or screws to be used in the holes in the Kallax (see pictures, no need to buy new stuff, find old screws and check if the fit the hole in the Kallax)
  • one of each printed part, see print instructions

Print instructions:

  • Top parts: 4 perimeters and 15% infill, support for the floating regions
  • Bottom hooks: 3 perimters and 15% infill work fine for me
  • Crank is comprised of two pip-parts. Use an easy to remove interface and the tolerances should work just fine. I used PLA for the part and PETG for the interface.

Assembly:

  1. Push the two top parts onto the corner of your Kallax. Use dowels or screws to hold in place (in case the fit is not snug enough).
  2. Put the long wooden dowel in place and check if the length is alright.
  3. Cut the sheet according to the size of the dowel. Leave a little space on both sides. I sew a little “tunnel” for the dowel for it to slide into.
  4. (Add eyelets to the bottom corners of your sheet if possible)
  5. Add the hooks to the bottom two holes of your Kallax. The hooks for away if you pull out the bottom dowel/screw.
  6. Add the crank and stopper
