I was replacing some gas struts on my caravan and came across a method of compressing the gas struts for installation using ratchet straps (see video below - Not my video). However I found that the balls on the end of the strut were damaging the straps as more pressure was applied,
I quickly designed and printed these to keep the straps flat and therefore avoid the point pressure put on the straps that was damaging them. I was not sure they would hold up under the heavy force applied in compressing the strut but they worked very well needing only the one set to install all 4 gas struts (they would have been fine to install more). Simply put one of these under each end of the gas strut and then place the strap over them and start tightening
One side of the circular cut out has a slight smaller border than the other, this side is intended to face the mounting hole on the gas strut so that it does not get in the way when installing it onto the pin. The spherical indentation in the model is for a ball end of 16 mm diameter, however the Fusion file has been added if you would like to make a change to this.
Printing Advice
Due to the heavy forces this part is under use a high amount of infill, as I created this model a while ago I am not sure exactly how much it was, but I know I printed at or above 80%
