Set of stencils for drawing Dungeons and Dragons underground maps.  I'm going for the old 1st generation module blue map style.

There are six files, three for 1 inch battle maps, and three for ¼ inch paper maps…

The 1INCH files are for battlemaps at 1 inch = 5 feet scale.  You can use a marker, mine is wet erase on a plastic mat.  All symbols work great at this scale

The QTR files are for ¼ inch = 5 feet scale on graph paper.  Use a ballpoint pen or a pencil.  This one has lines twice as thick as the other set, allowing for the smaller scale and smaller pens.  At this scale, it is a test of your filament printer to print the small details, a resin printer could be useful.  I found the wall patterns work excellent, as do the dais, stairs, doors, large star, and trap.  However, the chairs, pits, and spiral stairs are difficult to use.

All templates were drawn on the computer specifically for this project, then lithographed and pulled into Blender for trimming and scaling before exporting as STL files.

There are three templates because at the 1INCH scale they get big (but still fit on an 8 inch build plate).

Template A has doors (normal, open, secret, concealed, barred, and locked), stairs up and down, spiral stairs, an arrow, two sizes of stars, and 3 sizes each of circles and squares.

Template B has pits both covered and open, a trap, table and two types of chairs, a bed, two styles of altar, a dais, a fountain, and a cage.

Template C has linear patterns: dots, dashes, wavy curtain, water waves, railing, rough wall, and arrow slits.  Straight lines can be made using the edge of any of the templates.

The names of each symbol are on the pictures included, but not the stencils themselves as that would be too difficult to read.  Many of the symbols could have multiple meanings, so the old blue module maps usually had a key on every page what the symbols meant!  Nice and convenient.

All templates have a faint grid on them matching the intended scale for lining up objects.

It is possible to make a 1 inch = 10 feet scale battlemap by enlarging the Quarter inch model to 200%.  Or, you may make a ½ inch = 5 feet scale paper map by reducing the 1 inch to 50%.  Either way, only adjust the X and Y, not the Z.  What's the difference?  The line thickness.  Everything draws well at these sizes.

I printed everything with either white PLA or transparent PLA+.  0.20 layers, 0.4 nozzle.  Infill and supports should be irrelevant.  If warping of your templates is a problem, let the build plate cool before removing the print.  If warping is still a problem, add a couple layers of thickness in the slicer.

And finally, a Haiku to brighten your long nights of mapping…

Forgotten parchment,

Whispers secrets of the crawl,

Dungeon unfolds now.
