This hanger is designed to be mounted with a screw and includes a friction fit cover to make things look neat and clean. My Fusion 360 source file is included so you can scale the hangers up or down depending on the size of the wire your lights have. The design has a couple of user parameters your can edit to change the size of the channel for the wire and the clearance for the cover so you can get a good fit.
I found a 5mm size channel works well for standard outdoor holiday lights. The 3mm size works for smaller “fairy” lights. You can even scale it way up and hold something like an extension cord. 3mm - 5mm hangers print easily un under an hour (~15 minutes and ~35 minutes, respectively).
I designed these mainly for lights on my deck so that I could hang the lights low enough so they are visible below the railing.
