Modifying a Power Supply Unit (PSU) and working with mains voltages is inherently dangerous. It involves significant risks, including the potential for severe injury or death. By following any advice or instructions provided, you acknowledge that you are undertaking these modifications at your own risk. I take no responsibility for any injuries, damages, or losses that may occur as a result of your actions. Always ensure you have proper training and take all necessary safety precautions before working with electrical components and high voltages.
The PSU fan in my Q1 Pro was running at full blast all the time, and it was quite loud.
I decided to mod it with a temperature controller off of Aliexpress.
There is no space inside the PSU, so I mounted the electronics on the back where there is just enough space.
The temperature controller runs on 12v so I also included a buck-converter to step down the voltage from 24 to 12.
Parts used:
- “Single 12V 2A DC PWM 2-3 Wire Fan Temperature Control Speed Controller”: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005477936148.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.4.164d1802k8rMvO
- “LM2596s DC-DC Step-down Power Supply Module 3A Adjustable Buck Converter”: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005643579541.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.16.7e4f1802j4mWH3
- M5 screw for securing the temperature probe (I believe?)
The input to the buck converter is plugged into the original fan pin inside the PSU
I printed the box in PLA for testing, but PETG or ABS/ASA would likely be a better choice, as the little tabs that hold in the bottom pcb are stiff and brittle in PLA (I broke one off as I snapped the pcb in).
