One of my ducted heating vents wasn't closing the baffle and I found that the gear that does this action was broken and missing. There was also a missing lug from the shaft that holds the baffle. I designed and created a new lug for the baffle shaft and a cog gear that fits in place of the old gear and you need to get m6 bolt to connect the knob and the gear. I had to file a small amount from the part that locates on the vent to clear the m6 bolt. You then use the knob part on the head of the bolt and this acts as the push button centre piece where the old gear was located and the key makes it all work easily. It works better than my other factory vents now I have the key.

You can print all parts as displayed in part list with no supports.

Please post a make! I would love to see if anyone has made use of this!

*Update

Added V7 part. I modified so that the gear fits better. I blunted the top and it meshes better like this.

*Update

I altered the knob as it was hard to turn. It now has a key that you can use to open and close.

Note: Use locktite permanent to lock the nut when assembling otherwise it will spin.

I also recommend carefully gluing the nut to the cog with a small amount of glue. I recommend Locktite super glue gel control so that it stays localised.

Fitting

I heated the lug with cigarette lighter and poked it into the shaft. I then needed to sand it a bit so that if fit the hole.rnrnThe gear I mounted over the broken centre shaft and glued it so that it can then work when turning the push button on the bottom side.rnrn*UpdaternI changed the design and used an m6 bolt to connect the knob and the gear.rnI had to file a small amount from the part that locates on the vent to clear the m6 bolt.

Note the lug on the baffle shaft

This is the vent I have repaired

Final fitting and function. The key makes the function better than it worked before broken.

Final knob design that works with key shown.

Be sure to locktite the bolt and nut so it doesn't spin. I also recommend carefully gluing the nut to the cog with a small amount of glue. I recommend Locktite super glue gel control so that it stays localised.

How I Designed This ===================

I designed this in fusion 360 then used 3d builder to settle the part into the location for best print position.
