A light switch extended for small children meant to fit the Decora style rocker.

Needing a single switch light switch extender, I was drawn to @LividSquid_1311619 ‘s 2-gang Decora design because it looked the most like those purchasable on Amazon and it provided access for the dimmers that are installed around our house. But I couldn’t find a version that was for a single switch so I trimmed LividSquid's.

When assembling, I couldn't get the screw in without using vice grips which roughed up all the edges of the screw. So I also added a drive on that backside for a flat head screwdriver. My settings aren't perfect, and I found that running an M8 tap through the arm made a world of difference for ease of installation.

*I printed everything in 0.15 layer heights, which is probably overkill but since there are vertical radii I figured the more detail I could add the better.

Tips:

  • It made assembly so easy that I want to mention it again: Running a M8 tap through the arm cleaned up the threads so much that assembly was a breeze. Definitely recommend.
  • A surprising pro to using this design is that it fits on top of an existing light switch cover, so the cover doesn't need to be stored for when the kids grow up and don't need it anymore. But that's why LividSquid calls out that longer 6-32 screws are needed. I repurposed some 1" length screws I had from replacing the switch with a dimmer model.
