Added new images (green models in images) to show the latest version of the parts and new STL and STEP files for the 2 new pieces. The horn to valve knob adapter is unchanged. This version has a few mm of slide to accommodate servos of slightly different dimensions to prevent binding of the horn and valve when operating.

Edit:

There appears to be two different models of the rainbird valve. The one I received from Amazon seems to be the less common one based on image searches. Ive updated the picture of the valve to show both models. The valve I made these parts to fit is the valve on the left. The new model valve may still fit, I just dont have one to test. Likely only the servo horn to valve knob adapter would need to be updated.

This model was originally made for SG90 servos but with the cheap servos I had and 5V supply they were not reliable in operating the valve so i modified the model for a 996 servo and am including the files for the smaller servo should anyone want to try it with a higher torque servo and or at a higher voltage because its a much smaller and faster printing part.

Print Settings

Both files were printed in PETG at 0.2mm layer height with 35% infill, though that's likely excessive. I am still pretty new to 3D printing so i would recommend slicing your own files since they will probably print faster and with less filament than mine, but i have included both my gcode files for the two included versions of this model.

Print time with my settings for the larger servo valve: 3:07 @ 32g of filament

Print time with my settings for the smaller servo valve: 1:44 @ 16g of filament

Both files were assembled with M3 machine screws, the 90 size servo was mounted with the included screws instead. If you do not have the servo screws for the SG90 servo design, the holes in the mount are sized for M2 machine screws to be used instead. threaded holes in the parts are 2.6mm (M3 tap drill size) so the screws will cut their own threads on installation, no inserts or nuts are needed. You could of course also use an M3 tap.

The fit of the rainbird valve is very tight in this model and should almost snap into place with a light press. You may need to scale the parts slightly depending on your printer. the servo horn adapter is also a tight press onto the rainbird valve, so this part may need to be slightly scaled as well. On my printer this model fits extremely well (through sheer dumb luck), but i revised the model around what my printer was producing so its tuned to my printer.

BOM

Larger servo:

  • 4 x M3x6mm or close for mounting servo to servo mount
  • 4 x M3x6 or longer (I used 20mm) for mounting servo mount to valve body.
  • 1 x servo
  • 1 x rain bird valve
  • ¼" tubing, i used floraflex but there should be plenty of clearance in the model for any brand.

Smaller servo: (Experimental, this design may not work for you)

  • 4 x M3x6 or longer (I used 20mm) for mounting servo mount to valve body.
  • 2 x mounting screws for servo (supplied with servo) or M2x6 machine screws
  • 1 x servo
  • 1 x rain bird valve
  • ¼" tubing, i used floraflex but there should be plenty of clearance in the model for any brand.
