TopLock French Cleat hanger system. I love the look of a french cleat system in my garage. I found that smaller tools or smaller plates with only a couple tools on it, wants to fall off or come up from the wall cleat. I have seen limited ways to lock a french cleat in place. So I designed a way that was simple and effective in locking it in place without being too bulky or hard to use. I have done a lot of testing, re testing, modifying and testing again. I have done a strength test, and could not break the pieces. I pulled straight out and up and could not get it to break, or come loose. On the cleat accessory hook there is an edge on the sides to prevent your holder from sliding sideways when removing tools or putting them back. Due to plastic on plastic, you must lock at least 1 cleat hook in place. Since there is no friction on the 45 degree angles, it has a possibility to slide out, so the lock must be in place to have it work properly. I have not printed this full scale yet but will be in a week or two.
Materials needed
#8 x 1-¼ construction screws for securing wall pieces to a plywood sheet
M3x-whatever length you want to use for securing your cleat accessory to your tool holder
I have different lengths. Example for walls I have 3.6 inches, the file is wall 3.6. The supports are the same way, support 1.5 is 1.5 inches.
To secure the wall cleats to a wall, I suggest getting a piece of plywood and screwing the wall cleats to the plywood. Then you can mount/move the plywood anywhere. Use the different lengths to maximize the space you have!
Due to different printers and the variance in them, I have included the F360 files to cleat accessory hooks, locks, and supports.
You should print one of each and make sure your clearance is acceptable.
The locks should slide with a little bit of friction but not much. Supports should have more friction since that is the only thing holding them in.
I have also incorporated an alignment pin so as you link them together it will help keep you aligned.
I have included to types of cleat accessory hooks. One has a hole bigger made for an M3 heatset insert. The other is a smaller hole for an M3 bolt that you can screw into the hook and it will thread itself.
