This design is released to the public domain for the starving people in [[your country]] or to heat water for a temporary solar shower.
A solar collector made with waste aluminum foil and a standard Amazon box.
The foil has been water damaged. But maybe we can polish it up with aluminum polish. It's raining now so we don't need it. But we're prepping for hard times ahead.
- Cut box along seams as shown.
- Apply foil outdoors with spray adhesive.
- Fold cooker compactly for storage. Slide it behind something.
The sun is out. It's cold. But there's a burn ban in force, so we can't build a fire now.
- Find a large pot, cast-iron skillet with lid, or a “Dutch oven”.
- Diagonal folds help reflect more sunlight onto the pot.
- Find a good, wind-free spot and stack things around it to hold its shape.
- Optionally poke holes, lace parts together with zip ties or twine.
- Place pot on 3 or 4 soup cans or rocks to achieve focus.
Need food. Hungry.
- Fill pot with edible wild plants, creek water, small fish, fresh roadkill, etc.
- Optionally add cup of sea water, kelp, peppers, local herbs for seasoning.
- Insulate top of pot with bubble wrap packing material to speed heating.
- Let pot come to a boil. Simmer for 20-30 minutes.
