Non-functional Trauma Scissors for Clinical Simulation
Why would you need these?
In clinical simulations, you’re supposed to "cut" the clothes off mannequins or simulated patients, but that’s usually either unethical or just too expensive. That’s why mannequins come with clothes that have zippers in the right spots to simulate cutting.
However, scissors are often included in medical kits to help practice protocols and skills. But here's the thing: during stressful training situations, even though students know it's just a simulation, they sometimes actually cut something! We once had a mannequin’s clothes with zippers sewn in get completely cut into pieces! 😅
To avoid that, I’ve designed non-functional trauma scissors. You can keep them in your medical kits or cabinets, hold them as if you’re cutting, but rest assured—they won’t damage any clothes or mannequins.
Note: These are NOT real medical tools. They’re strictly for simulation purposes, meant to improve clinical training and make medical education more accessible.
Perfect for advanced emergency training courses and playing out clinical scenarios.
These were 3D printed at the Medical Education Technology Centre at Riga Stradiņš University (Latvia).
If you use this model, I’d love to see it in action! Feel free to share photos and comments. And if you’d like to support my work, feel free to buy me a hot chocolate! 😊
