This model is 100% free and open-source. I don't run a Patreon or ask for tips—all I ask in return for the hours spent prototyping is that you hit the ❤ Liked button or post a picture of your build. It takes one second, costs nothing, and tells me the design was worth sharing , thanks.

Trigger fishing rod holder an exercise in 3D design and a bit of fun, that uses the line to trigger the release lifting the rod and setting the hook ( well that's the plan ) , this is an experimental design, improvement will be posted after some testing so stay tuned .

Currently designed for a 20mm plumbing pipe to mount on to stick in the sand .

( more photos coming )

Parts you will need :

The trigger catch uses a simple pen spring - found in some ball point pens.

The back Pull spring , you maybe able to use a bunch of rubber bands or a light spring from a bed or something else  ( experiments needed )

2x M4 30mm bolt and nut ( for the trigger pivot point and to secure pole optional )

1x M10 30mm bolt and nut ( for the main Pivot point )

0.5mtr ~20mm plumbing pipe , galvanized pipe , electrical conduit

Printing :

( this is what im using at the moment but may change needs to be strong high shock )

Printed in PETG

Infill : triangular

3 perimeters

30% infill

Current Updates :

V2 base : just making it a bit stronger and faster to print

Added spring clamp 1x m4 bolt and nut needed to be able to put a spring mount point lower on the pole.

Added : Rod Holder Big - This is 223mm long , will rename the First one Rod Holder Small 200mm long .

Working on  updates :

Various mounting adapters :

20mm Pole mount standard

35mm Pole adapter

32mm and 25mm rail mount (coming) for boats

G-clamp option for piers  or tinnies

Variable trigger - so adjustable spring tension is what I'm thinking for lighter bites or heavier bites to avoid triggers from waves etc. , seems to be about middle range with a pen spring I'm using but that would vary depending on length and thickness of spring .

Prototype print completed :

First test print completed all parts fit and function beautifully, rod holder could be an issue with bigger reels bit to close to the trigger so i will make a longer rod holder and perhaps a rod holder clip in extension , its fine with 2500 reels but too close on the 6000 reels, it was longer initially but reduced its length for ease of printing however it needs to be about 20mm longer to give more clearance on bigger reels so you will have to print that on a diagonal as long as you have a 220x220 print area, i will post a few more parts in a couple of hours.  note bigger rods and reels you will need a heavier spring on the back but it seems pretty strong so it should be able to do bigger rod/reel combo's.

tight lines , and leave me suggestions on what you would like to see as options and photos of fish you catch :P
