This thing is just an idea how to make a plate for a distillation column using 3D printing. I came up with this two…

Big request: if you make and test this, please write in comments how it works.

This is just an idea of how you can make a tray for a rectification column using 3D printing. I came up with it two years ago and tried printing it with PETg just to see if it would print without supports and also to check how PETg holds up in hot water (as you can see in the last photo, not very well :) ). But now there’s a new material available, which is certified for food contact and remains solid up to 110°C: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB3tgEEDTyc. I hope that cheaper alternatives will appear over time, but even 2 euros per tray is quite reasonable! :)

Unfortunately, I can't bring this idea to life because, due to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, I was forced to leave my home and currently don’t have access to a printer or distillation equipment. But perhaps this idea will inspire someone else to experiment further. I would love to see how it works in practice.

The model was developed using Fusion360. Here’s the link in the Autodesk cloud: https://a360.co/3zLp34x. The dimensions are calculated for a column with an internal diameter of 80 mm, glass thickness of 5 mm, and gasket thickness of 2 mm.
