This is a tool that clips on the primary mirror to aid with collimation for the Travel Telescope created by Anders. This is my first telescope and I was having trouble collimating the primary lens well. Rather than sticky my greasy fingers anywhere near the reflector to try to do the binder hole reinforcer or paint marker method I decided to find a tool I could print to do the job.
I found the model by Piotr, but it needed to be modified to fit this telescope, and I made a few refinements while I was at it.
Simply align the notches with the mirror clips, and slide onto the reflector. the fit should be snug, now it should be easier to adjust the primary mirror.
Included is a single color version of the model, which I would recommend printing in a bright color, as black makes it very hard to see once you start to get close to centered.
Also included is a 2 color version with just the ring and the center bullseye a different color than the rest. For some reason my slicer complained about an unsupported overhang on the main body just above the ring. That said it printed just fine so not sure what thats about.
The two color has two versions, one for printing at .2mm layers and one for printing at .3mm layers. Each one has a ring and bullseyes that are 2 layers thick, so the color should be crisp, but there should only 2 color changes for the whole print to minimize waste.
I printed this in PETG with a 0.6mm nozzle and 0.3 layer height, because that is what I used to print most of the telescope.
good luck, hope this helps! after all if me, an absolute noob like me could collimate a telescope for the first time with this tool, I'm confident it can work for anyone. If you need a guide I found this one to be really good for a beginner.
