World's most advanced open source headset!

A fully open source headset based on the Variable Openmod Part 1.

These are parts used to modify the Part 1 into a headset. So you will need parts from Part 1.

This is likely to be the last headphone I make and of course the last open source headphone that is released. The Variable Openmod series of headphones are designed to be a base that people can build upon and improve. Rather than being the best headphone there is, it is made to introduce simple concepts and tutorials on how to be able to build your own headphone while using widely available and easy to source parts.

And I guess seeing how this is essentially all just heavily modified Part 1 parts, it shows some of the possibilities the design has.

Keep in mind that you must have some experience with soldering before attempting this. It's a pain trying to solder everything. Which is why I made tools for it to make it less of a pain.

When it comes to printing the parts, the only part you need to choose is the shell. If you want the microphone and cable on the right side, then you would choose the “right” shell. If you want it on the left side, then you would choose the “left” shell. Everything else you still need to print out like the “neutral” shell and both left and right cable covers.

Parts required from Variable Openmod Part 1:

  • 2x Pad Mount
  • 2x Headband Clip
  • TPU Pad
  • 2x Yoke
  • 2x Screw Holder
  • 45cm of unprinted 1.75mm TPU filament

Other Parts Required:

  • TRRS 3.5mm Audio Socket (small red motherboard): 1
  • M4x20mm Pan Head Phillips machine screws: 14
  • M4 Hex nuts (DIN934) : 14
  • 40-52mm dynamic drivers: 2
  • HM5 Earpads: 2
  • TRRS 3.5mm Cable (CTIA Standard, should be the most common type)
  • 3-pole 3.5mm microphone
  • 3mm 2-core wire (75cm)
  • PETG Filament
  • TPU Filament

Tools can also be found for free below to help you with soldering.
