This is a parameterized/configurable case for camera lens filters.

The design goals were the following:

  • sturdy and robust, so that the potentially expensive filter is properly protected
  • ergonomic, easy to grab, hold and handle
  • secure locking mechanism, but should be easily opened and closed without much fiddling
  • easy insertion and removal of filter, with one hand and a secure grip but without a big risk of touching the filter surface
  • lightweight, as I would have to carry it around most of the time in my camera bag
  • no additional, non-printed parts (like magnets or the like)
  • easy to print

This design attempts to achieve all these goals.
The top part (lid) screws tightly onto the bottom with a simple 40° twist and can be inserted in any of four possible positions, so you don't have to fiddle for a long time to get the threads to catch.

How to print with PrusaSlicer

  • load both parts and orient them with their large, flat outsides on the print bed
  • let PrusaSlicer arrange them automatically
  • PLA
  • 0.10mm DETAIL
  • 100% infill
  • no support required (the “detected print stability issues” can be ignored)
  • no post-print work required, the model should be directly usable

On my MK3S these settings for the default 72mm case result in a print time of about 4 hours and produce a case that weighs about 30 grams.

How to configure

  • get a free onshape account (if you haven't already)
  • clone the model into your workspace
  • in the “Configurations” panel on the top left change to Filter Outer Diameter, Filter Height, Text 1 and Text 2 to your needs (leave Thread Pitch and Thread Shift as is, at least initially)
  • Export the two parts (Bottom and Top) by right-clicking each and selecting “Export” from the pop-up menu (you don't need to change the export settings)
  • Slice with PrusaSlicer as above

In my tests I found that adding 0.5mm to the measured Filter Outer Diameter and Filter Height worked best.
