We needed a safety system for our wood-burning stove to ensure that the range hood cannot operate unless a window is open to allow for proper airflow. The window contact switch installed by our contractor, unfortunately, isn't very smart—it simply cuts off power completely whenever no window is open. This means we can't even use the light on the range hood unless we open a window.
As a result, even during summer when the stove isn't in use, we’d have to keep a window open just to power the range hood. I might try building a more intelligent solution (and I’m open to suggestions), but for now, I’ve 3D-printed a mechanical bypass that resets to the safe mode whenever the window is opened.
Of course, this should be used responsibly and absolutely never while the stove is in use.
