After i made a bentobox i was unhappy how low seems to be the airflow and carbon cartridge volume, so never used that and i decided to design a new air-filter for my x1c maximizing as much as possible volume of carbon cartridge and the airflow in the same space inside of printer. At a moment i was about to stop designing this concept, being worried that sow many fans may induce annoying vibrations to the printer, and also the available space inside printer is pretty small. External filter of printer seems to be a much better idea, but with some problems to be resolved like will be huge and also need to recirculate air from the printer in order to not loose the heat. I decided to give it a try anyway to this design because was almost finished.
Positive things:
- i am happier with this than bentobox (airflow and volume of carbon cartridge)
- i like design with hepa filters at exit instead at input because i want my printer clean of carbon dust
- vibrations was not a problem, 60mm fans are not so noisy as 40mm ones. I printed without recalibration and was fine
Negative things:
- there is still smell of burn abs in the room, this filter will not cancel ‘it , but i’m gonna use this in the future for abs until i'll find a better solution.
- build-plate will run very close to cartridge (see pictures), about 2-3mm maybe, so could be risky to hit the cartridge if not proper mounted. You have to assume this if you are going to use it. The filter is so wide because i really wanted top 60mm fans.
- I designed first to mount "Box002" on "Cartridge001" using threaded inserts, but assembly in that point was felling not airtight so i made "Pin001" for holes of threaded inserts and glue it that area (see pictures)
Note- I don't have time to make more detailed drawings (included files should be enough to understand how to make and assemble), also M3 bolts are not represented.
