Leonardo da Vinci probably already had the idea for the infinity machine, here is my version of it...
Infinity machine
Exhibition and demonstration model to illustrate gear stages connected in series.
The infinity machine consists of 16 gear stages, each with a gear ratio of 1:7.
This results in a total gear ratio of 7^16 -> 1:33232930569601
or
If the first gear turns once in a second, the last gear takes about 1 million years to complete one rotation.
or otherwise...
In the lifetime of a person and driven by a cordless screwdriver, the last gear only turns about 0.5mm on the outside diameter.
The last gear can therefore be blocked - the first gear will still turn.
this comes very close to infinity - at least in the esoteric sense.
Before printing the parts, please read the printing instructions!
Required are …
- 1 x frame_part_base.stl
- 2 x frame_part_bottom.stl
- 14x frame_part.stl
- 1 x frame_part_top.stl
- 1 x frame_part_closure.stl
- 16x gear_7_49x1_25.stl
- 1 x gear_7_49x1_25_top.stl
- 1 x central_axis.stl
- 17x pin.stl
- 1 x blocker.stl
- label_1_7.stl to label_1_3E+13.stl
and ,,,
- 17x bearing 625-ZZ
Preparation of the parts

Press the bearings into the gears

Clean threads in the frame parts
use cleaner.stl

Screw in the threaded pin
Attach the labels
Assemble

The frame parts and gears can always be assembled in blocks of three.
pay attention to the alignment of the gears.
Please use the central axis for stabilization during assembly.
After assembling the last frame part, please only tighten the central axis slightly

Now check the alignment of the gears and correct it if necessary by turning the frame. If the lower gears run freely, the central axis can be tightened firmly.
Please check the clearance of the gears and adjust if necessary using the threaded pin.
Finally, the blocking block can be attached.

Infinity machine 1/2
It is also possible to build the infinity machine with only 7 gear ratios.
Then use …
- 5 x frame_part.stl 8x
- 7 x gear_7_49x1_25.stl
- 8 x pin.stl
- central_axis_short.stl
- label_1_7.stl to label_1_117649.stl
Drive
to drive the infinity machine using a cordless screwdriver
Please use a flexible shaft or hose to connect to the cordless screwdriver.
The drive must be screwed onto a base, to fix the infinity machine, please use 3x fixing.stl.
Attention! Use the drive at your own risk.
