Note: the STLs included here are for a nominal 4mm cable diameter. Some experimentation will be needed to ensure watertightness for different cable stiffness/size.

To assemble the penetration, you will need to print:

  • 1x cable-gland-hex-nut (100% infill PETG)
  • 1x cable-gland-countersunk (100% infill PETG)
  • 2x gasket (100% infill TPU)
  • 2x grommet (100% infill TPU)

Additional hardware (316 stainless steel recommended for saltwater environments):

  • 4x M3 hex nut
  • 4x M3 x 12mm countersunk Phillips head

Assembly steps:

  • If necessary, cut the split on the grommet with a utility knife.
  • Cut a hole in the container to enter, large enough to thread the cable through, but smaller than the grommet diameter.
  • Position the cable-gland-countersunk over the hole and use it as a guide to drill holes for each bolt.
  • Position the gasket over the cable.
  • Position the split grommet over the cable.
  • Slide either of the cable-gland components over the cable, and push the grommet into it using pliers.
  • Position this assembly on one side of the penetration (i.e. gasket against the surface, then grommet/gland assembly on the outside).
  • Repeat on the inside of the penetration (some petroleum jelly might help in sliding the grommet into position over the cable).
  • Bolt down and tighten.
