Hylian Shield (Flat) - Full Size

I painted a sheet of 4mm MDF in blue (I used a small colour tester).

The parts are all printed flat, in the desired colours. I used:

• Silk Silver PLA
• Silk Gold PLA
• Red PLA
• Blue PLA (optional)

I assembled all the edge pieces with the dovetail pin. The shape of the pin makes the parts tight together: I inserted the pin at a small angle so the large end of the pin is inserted in the wider opening of the part, then when straightened, it pulls the two parts together.

Once the edge pieces are all together, they can either glued to the shield, or use them to trace the rear side of the shield so they can be screwed in. I screwed them in, using short 3.5x16 screws. I had made some screw holes in the parts, to make it stronger. However, I didn't figure out how to align the screws, so I just did that randomly. In hindsight, glueing would have been much easier. I couldn't screw the red parts in as they're too thin, so I glued them using Gorilla Wood glue.

I printed stencils to help align the parts in the front, and trace the in the rear. I also included a “stencil” for the center of the triforce, so if you don't want to paint but print these in blue and paint them, that's possible too.

I made leather straps that I screwed in from the back, behind some shapes so the screws don't stick out from the front (I aligned using the stencils / traces in the rear).

2024-12-02 Update: Added the Edge model as a single piece, in case useful to huge printers, or for scaling down. I did not test to print it.
