These are simple hexa-symmetrical snowflakes with eyelets on each end. What makes them special is the option to have each one unique, just like real ones. You may hang them individually or connect them up into chains.

Contents

  • Random snowflake generator. Use OpenSCAD to render the model – it will come out different every time. Do this either in the OpenSCAD IDE, or just run from command line: openscad -o snowflake.stl snowflake.scad
  • Pre-generated snowflakes: 15 of them. I just generated them like this in the command line:
for i in {01..15}
do
openscad -o snowflake-${i}.stl snowflake.scad
done
  • Mini chain links STL – to connect up the snowflakes into chains
  • Two box STLs: 30 mm or 50 mm high, ideal for storage or gifting.

Enjoy!

Modification

One of the things you may want to modify is the radius (35 mm by default). You may just tweak the $rad constant set at the beginning of the SCAD source. If you make it too large or too small, you may wish to adjust the depth of the recursion, too.

The individual sticks have an almost triangular cross-section. I experimented with other shapes, even a proper hexagonal one, but this looked the best.
