I needed a 2.5" inch lift for my 4x4. So I modified the quite functional 4x4 base by David S by stretching the model to 100mm (about 4") and filled in the base to a height of 2.5" inches.
I printed it as follows;
- PETG
- 15% gyroid infill
- 100% infill cylinder in the middle for strength.
- 4 perimeters
- 0.32 layer height
- 0.6mm nozzle
I didn't have enough material to do 100% for the entire thing, but consider it! It came to 480 grams or about half a spool. My setup printed in 10.5 hours. Any line height and any sized nozzle should be more or less fine.
Doing my research Gyroid and Rectilinear are comparable in strength, gyroid out performs when compression comes from other directions (like someone kicking a 4x4?) so I chose that. The solid cylinder should help alleviate crushing. PETG is significantly stronger and more durable than PLA, especially with hot and cold temperatures. I have my shelf bolted to the wall for additional safety and there will be primarily a compression load. I don't have it loaded yet so we'll see how it ultimately performs.
Test your loads and use at your own risk!
- 1 Month Update: Still looking good and sturdy! Under about 150lbs on each leg.
