Why a desktop altimeter? It is useless unless your desk is in an aircraft. However, the barometer function is useful for weather nerds, and it serves as a display for a nice instrument with a lot of numbers on the face.
The instrument holder portion is useful for attaching the instrument to other things. The holes are on 20mm centres.
