A Fusion 360 parametric design (f3d file included) of a box with an external sliding lid. The lid has a small indent to be more easily pulled out. The lid has two version: with and without holes. The version with holes is more useful if you want to see what's inside (such as board game tokens and meeples).

This design is inspired by Sortirus's amazing board game organizers.

Many aspects of the design is customizable via Fusion 360's parameters:

  • Width, depth, height
  • Thickness of the lid and the wall
  • Tolerance for the sliding dovetail (adjust based on the dimensional accuracy of your printer)
  • Fillet radius
  • The size of holes on the lid
  • The number of holds on the lid (it has some default values calculated based on the size of the box)
  • …

Print settings:

  • Layer height: 0.20mm or lower (for the accuracy of the dovetail)
  • Support: no support required when printed in the given orientation.
  • Wall loops: 2 (higher for more strength)
  • Top and bottom shell layers: 5 and 3 (adjust for your layer height to achieve adequate thickness)
  • Seam position: back (after orient parts so that the sliding mechanism is facing left and right) to avoid seams on the dovetails
  • Sparse infill: 15% Gyroid. Note that the example STLs has nearly no sparse infill. If you increase the lid thickness or the wall thickness via parametric customization, then there will be more sparse infill.
