The example shown in the photos was printed using SLA Resin.
Why These Modifications?
After building a totem, I identified several areas for improvement for me:
- My hands tend to get very sweaty, causing the top case to become dirty easily.
- I wanted the option for tenting (angled typing) without making it permanent.
- LED indicator.
- The original was difficult to build.
How to build?
Follow the original guide for most steps and components. but the main differs are:
- Assemble the CFRP plate on top.
- Attach the MagSafe magnet to the bottom case.
MagSafe Stand Details
The photos show a Ugreen MagSafe stand(LP688/15709). Its strong hinge provides stability while typing and offers adjustable angles. While portable, note that its aluminum construction makes it relatively thick and heavy. (under 10 USD when it hit lowered priced from AliExpress, each)
MagSafe Magnet Requirements
- Compatible with Qi2 standard, receiver spec. (+0.2mm tolerance)
- 1mm thickness (maximum, close to standard specifications)
- Strong magnetic force (N50 or higher recommended for tenting)
- attach with double-sided tape or super glue
You can usually buy them from a mobile phone repair shop or AliExpress (1 USD, each).
Important: Verify magnet polarity before permanent attachment!
If you only need the design of the Original Totem and just the MagSafe solution, please refer to the EXTRA folder. It’s different from the CFRP version.
CFRP Top Plate Information
The CFRP plate uses 1.5mm thickness for accessibility, as many local custom keyboard stores can cut and handle with this thickness. (approximate cost: 6 USD at my local shop).
Known Issue
There's a minor issue with the CFRP plate in the battery area - it may not secure properly to the top case. While maintaining the original design, I found applying a small amount of super glue fixes this. The keyboard functions perfectly without this fix, but some users might want to address it.
All other aspects remain unchanged from the original design.
