What:
An almost complete remake of the Filamentalist, designed to to fit in a limited space.
Reuses the Idler spool from the filamentalist.
Will work with the Rim roller from the F1 mod, I design new ones using a 8mm tube with a M6 bolt through it.
You can use the center drive roller from the Filamentalist, included one that fits the 3mm o-rings I had on hand better.
Why:
I needed a rewinder that fit my already built filament storage and had a downward filament path.
I wanted as many spools as possible, because changing filament sucks.
I wanted a short Bowden tube that followed the natural curvature of the filament.
I wanted easy disassembly for maintenance and a satisfying click when i put the rim roller back.
How:
I stole every idea i could from the Filamentalist and the F1 mod, with my somewhat limited Fusion skills I created “The Filabuster”. No, not because it bust your filament or bore you to death, but because it just keeps going… … Hopefully.
The Bom:
Rim_Roller_Unit
Hardware
1x 8mm OD 6mm ID metal tube, length depends on the width. I used 50mm.
1x M6 Bolt or threaded rod, depends on the width. I used 80mm
3x MR 608 bearing
1x HF081412 One-Way Bearing
2x O-rings, the original uses 3.5x20 ID mine uses 3x20 ID
1x Spring, any 15-20mm length 6mm OD will probably tested with both thicker and thinner.
1x 3mm Heatset Insert, standard “Voron size" M3x4x5
1x M3x35 SHCS, for the spring nut
1x M3x10 SHCS, for the tensioner
1x M3 Washer
1x Ecas
1x M5x10 BHCS
1x M5 T-Nut
Rubber bands, depends on the size of the rimroller. I used 4x 80mm length 10mm wide
Printed parts
1x Center_Drive_Roller
1x Filament_Guide_L
1x Filament Guide_R
1x Main_Body
1x Rim_Roller_Bolt (0x if you use a threaded rod, or use the wheels from the F1 mod)
1x Rim_Roller_Nut (2x if you use a threaded rod, or use the wheels from the F1 mod)
2x Spacer
1x Tension_Knob
1x Tensioner_Bearing_Axel
1x Tensioner_Body
1x Ecas_Press_Tool (you only need one, gives you a flat surface to press in the ecas)
Idler_Roller
It really depends of what you setup looks like, your kind of on your own here.
I used 4 Idler rollers on each rod section with a center support in the middle. Between the edge support and between each idler roller i used a divider to make sure the Idler was centered on the rim roller unit. You can probably use more rollers per section but at some point the rod will start to sag.
In my case i used a box built with 20x20 extrusion, the dimensions are 790x500x240
I can fit 16 Filabuster in my unit, if I would bother to rebuild it would probably make it a few cm taller for a better fit. I made the idler rod support a bit flexible for this reason.
I used Clicky-clack and magnets for the doors to get a good seal, works rather well.
I have currently 2 1 kg bentonite filled bags and it stays around 15% humidity. Intend to swap it out for a solid state dehumidifier at some point.
Hardware
This is what I used in my case.
4x385mm 8mm rod
2x MR 608 bearing, 2 for every Idler roller you using.
6x M3x8 SHCS
6x M3 T-Nut
Printed parts
3x Idler_Rod_Side_Supprt (One of the mirrored)
1x Idler_Rod_Side_Support_Temp (Same as above but room for your typical round temp/humidity)
2x Idler_Rod_Center_Support
16x Idler_Roller_Divider (These can be scaled to the right thickness depending on your setup)
16x Idle rollers (As for these I just used the ones from the Filamentalist, slightly modified in Tinkercad for color variation.)
Should you use it?
If it fits your need then go ahead, been running it for 6 month or so with good results.
But It's not in active development.
