I took apart some old printers and was left with a bin full of screws to sort.  There are a bunch of these out there but I felt like making one for my needs.  I had heat press inserts for each size, so that's what I made.  The side has tick marks every 5 and 10mm so you can set the screw in the v grove and get a really good idea of length.  It obviously wont tell you 6mm long, but just longer than 5 is pretty easy to guess that 6 is the right answer.

The edge under the V grove is left squared (rest is chamfered or rounded) so it can double a straight edge or mini rule.

Some things to consider when printing:

  • The numbers and lip are raised to give you room for a manual or auto color swap.  (layer 43 with my settings)
  • My inserts were 8mm deep so I made this to fit them.  You can use the cut or scale function to adjust the height if your inserts are a different size.  DO NOT scale X and Y or it wont work.
  • Set seams to “back” so that you don't get a seam in the way of the ticks on the ruler.

   ***NOTE***

PLEASE USE V2.0.  I am leaving the old versions just incase someone needs the looser not as well designed version.  But v2.0 is much better.  Works and even looks the exact same, but it prints better and then will work better.  Slicer settings don't matter as much.  You can run 3 walls instead of 5.  10% infill is plenty.  I built the needed strength into the design so you don't have to do anything special in the slicer, just load slice print.
