I built a little free pantry which has an acrylic window in the front. I could have bothered to use a router or something to embed the window into the frame, but I am lazy, so I just mounted it flat to the back, and didn't want to have to drive to the hardware store to buy some metal ones.
Make sure to leave a bit of room for expansion between the wood and the window.
