Upgrading Anycubic i3 Mega/Mega S with Marlin 2.1.x

The Anycubic i3 Mega offers great print quality out of the box, but there’s always room for improvement! I recently upgraded its display and controller and installed the Marlin 2.1 bugfix firmware to enhance performance, precision, stability, and efficiency. The new firmware ensures smoother operation and greater customization, while the upgraded display improves usability.

For those interested, I’ve also attached the SolidWorks file to make upgrading easier!

Parts Needed for the Upgrade (Easily Available on AliExpress):

1. MKS Robin Nano V3.1 with TMC2209 motor driver
2. MKS TS35 V2.0 touchscreen
3. USB 2.0 Type B Male to Type B Female extension [see picture]
4. TF Micro SD to SD Memory Card Reader Flexible Extender (30cm or more is better)
5. M3 Brass Hot Melt Insert Knurled Nuts (M3xL3xOD4.2)
6. M3 bolts (M3x10, M3x6)
7. Some 2.54 JST Connectors (for thermistor & end-switch; motor connectors remain unchanged)
8. Firmware GitHub Fork Link

Wiring and Connections

I printed all these parts in PLA filament, without support. To ensure strength, I used 4 layers for the top, bottom, and perimeters, along with 30-50% infill for a sturdy build.

This upgrade has transformed my Anycubic i3 Mega, making it more powerful and efficient! 🚀 Happy printing! 🎨✨
