So, it doesn't seem that long ago, but after upgrading my main thermostat to a Ecobee 4 I was the lucky recipient of a Ecobee premium stat… So naturally the 4 replaced the 3, and needed the same kind of wall spacer surface mount.
After previously rewiring the IR tube heater in the garage I needed a way to surface mount the new stat/wire as going through the drywall at this time wasn't a option.
Wanted it to still look clean, so I knocked together a quick model based on the backplane which allowed the wire to pass, and also allowed it to mount securely, the 4 has a couple of additional “locks” to align it than the 3, so it needed a new model.
Simple print/model, if I have time I'll add pictures but I think you can figure it out.
Attached the Sketchup file as well, it has some revisions/parts within it if you want to modify or adjust it.
The “solid” bottom to the “tunnel” is intentional, I simply used a construction knife to split the thin layer where the wire was to pass in the middle, this when the wire was pressed into the tunnel “gripped” it slightly so it didn't slide in/out of the spacer.
