If you have a small spool that doesn't fit where you normally put your filament, you can put your filament on this, and it'll stay standing and should feed well too. I printed mine out in PETG, and I don't know how it would work with PLA. You might want to stick it if you're concerned about the feed knocking it over, do what you want but i didn't kneed any modifications. Print with whatever supports you want.
