I required a some precisely positioned heat inserts so I designed a new heatset insert press around what I had lying around.

It is all printed in plain PLA but I will have to reprint the Soldering-Iron mount in ABS or PP so it does not deform because the Soldering-Iron I have gets a bit hot on the handle.

BOM:

  • 2x 2040 Aluminum Extrusions min 30cm, but can be longer
  • 1x MGN12C Linear Rail min 15cm, but can also be longer
  • 1x Extension-Spring 8.5mm x 47mm, but you can also use a rubber band. This is used automatically lift the iron up if you let go
  • 17x M3x8mm Screws
  • 16x M3 Slotnut
  • 4x M3x6mm Screw
  • 1x M3 Heatset Insert
  • 1x M3 Hexnut

Build:

  1. Add a Heatset Insert to the Top of the LinearRailMount
  2. Attach one 2040 Extrusion to the Table and the Extrusion Connector using M3 Screws and Slotnuts
  3. Slide the other extension into the Hole. Make sure the Side that points down is a good 90 Degree cut so it all it straight. If thats not the case lift it up a bit, make sure it is straight and fasten it in place using M3 Screws and Slotnuts
  4. Add the Linear Rail and fasten it using Slotnuts
  5. Add the LinearRailMount to the Linear Rail Carriage using the M3x6 Screws
  6. Screw the SolderingIronMount to the LinearRailMount
  7. Add a Screw and Hexnut to the SolderingIronMount to secure the Soldering Iron
