My OCD is getting to me; this is 100% for aesthetic purposes only. The cover sandwiches the 0.5U GeeekPi patch panel to the rack. This serves no purpose other than to hide the 0.5U gap and to match the look and feel of my other unified rackmounts (which is why I didn't put a center mounting hole).
